Affectionate, warm, and funny, Your Dog Is in the Bar by new author Celia Rensch Day is for folks who want to remember the good old days when neighbors helped mend fences and everyone pitched in when... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I picked this book because I’m an animal lover and it had the word “dog” in the title. After reading the first several chapters, I gave up. It may have been a cute and humorous book about the small town residents, but I refuse to read or watch tv that involves animals getting hurt or killed.
The author first starts writing about the main character who doesn’t like cats (her neighbor takes care of several feral cats) and goes so far as to pepper spray them, throw things at them and other harmful actions. She also says she’s not fond of dogs, so she doesn’t want any of them around to scare off the cats.
A few chapters later they are talking about the neighbors two dogs getting run over, but no one seems to care, because the dogs were always running in the street.
Animals are loving and innocent creatures. It’s the humans that are careless (letting unfixed cats live outside or not properly training or restraining dogs in a fenced yard).

This book was a fun read. Very much like the town I lived in. The personalities in the book are so very much like all small town folks and you could place them into just about any state and see a face to match her descriptions. Good reading for city folks also to give them a relaxing time away from the daily hustle.

This is an excellent book - that makes you yearn for a simpler life and time. It truely makes you want to live in a small town "where everybody knows your name" and people are still helpful and kind to their neighbors!

As one of the characters in her book, I loved reading it. She depicted us the way we are, with humor and an enjoyment for our community. So truthful, in fact, that the author had to wear a bullet proof vest the day after the book signing.
