My book club read this book on the recommendation of one of our members, and as a whole we heartily despised it (even the person who had picked up the original copy). We hated the characters, who were all (except perhaps the poor baby) horrible people with no moral compass or sense of self. We hated the way every character floated through life not taking any responsibility for any portion of their actions except for perhaps their pictures posted on instagram. We bemoaned the emptiness of soul of all the characters who only thought about what other people thought about them rather than considering actual good and evil. While the landscape of the book was evocative and place-making, and the writing style drew you in, we couldn't even decide who might enjoy this book. It's like whoever wrote the blurb about the book wrote about what the book should have been about instead of the shallowness of soul it actually portrayed. Read it if you're feeling angst about modern life and it will confirm every fear you ever had. Otherwise, just skip it.
