Jessica (13) lives in a care home because she refuses to go to school at home and is going through severe bouts of depression. Since moving into the care home, her interest in school has steadily increased and she is achieving good grades, of which she is very proud. She has also developed a passion for trampolining, which she takes part in weekly during her free time. However, when school starts again after the holidays and Jessica returns to the care home from home, a significant relapse into old patterns is evident. Individual-centred residential care is frequently affected by relapses. Analytical methods are less suitable for determining the causes of these relapses. They focus on the problem behaviour and attempt to explain it by drawing on personality development. For this reason, the following paper makes use of a variety of systemic approaches in order to subsequently outline a path towards a successful return to the family of origin.
