His journey takes him to England to serve in the Eighth Air Force as a bombardier on a B-17 Flying Fortress. While flying bombing missions, he faces fear and death in the frigid skies 20,000 feet over Germany. He soon realizes that on combat missions, victory is so much more than being careful. A cast of characters, some famous, joins our hero on his journey as he experiences tragedy and finds love. Will his luck run out?"Throughout the book, there are short passages about movies, movie stars, books, and music. There are also short passages chronicling historical events that occurred to provide the reader a sense of what was happening in the world during the time frame of the book.
