In You Are Special , Max Lucado tells the story of Punchinello, the wooden Wemmick who believes that he isn't good enough because of what others say about him. When will Punchinello realize how truly special he is? You Are Special is a beautiful story that reminds us that we are precious to God just the way we are. It is through spending daily time with him that we begin to see ourselves through his eyes. This is an important truth that children and parents need to know: God loves us even though we make mistakes and have flaws This best-seller has sold millions of copies and is now available in a limited, ten-year anniversary edition. The accompanying CD includes a special reading of the story by Max Lucado and music by Christian artist Phil Keaggy.
I love this book and bought it for a friend. I don’t think he enjoyed it as much as I did but I was impressed with the quality. Lightly used and you could tell around the edges but it didn’t bother me.

The story line is outstanding! I have read this to youth & adults. The message comes across to all audiences. Most often I see misty eyes. Nearly everyone can find themselves in this well illustrated book.
This was one of my favorite books as a kid. .

It is a simple metaphor to teach that your value does not come from others, but from your creator and the damage when you let others determine your value. The artwork is beautiful and the short story is a perfect length. Each person can identify with the main character Punchinello who in the end just considers (doesn't even fully believe) maybe his creator does really love him. My kids love this book and I don't tire of reading it to them. Leaving him as a a "work in progress" leaves us hope for the character, but reveals how deeply we accept what we've been raised to believe and that change is a slow process and not instantaneous.
A wonderful book, even if you don't have small children!

I'm of the firm belief that a good story is a good story, no matter how old you are! This beautiful picture book is Max Lucado at his best - he tells the story with a perfect economy of words and the illustrations are perfect. The main character, Punchinello, lives in a world where the wooden people wear "stickers" which are Stars or Grey Dots, depending on what others think of you! Poor Punchinello tries hard to gain others' approval, but keeps missing out and keeps getting grey dots, which means that he is definitely looked down upon in this make-believe society of wooden people. Finally, our friend meets a wooden girl who has no stickers! When people try to put stars on her, they don't stick! And the grey dots don't stick either! She explains to our main character that this is because she goes to visit Eli, the master woodcarver, who made them all. She doesn't card about the opinions of others. She suggests that Punchinello go visit Eli as well. When Punchinello goes to visit Eli, he learns an important lesson about the specialness of each created person just because you belong to God! The scenes in Eli's workshop are especially touching. My 17-year-old just read this book and LOVED it. We also watched the video and didn't think it was as good as the book. Please check out my other reviews of Christian books and music!
