Book Overview

"We in the music business urge you to read this book. We want you to meet and know 'our Jimmie.'"
-Minnie Pearl

"Never have I read a book that has given me as much pleasure and profit as You Are My Sunshine. To read how Jimmie Davis climbed from poverty to plenty, from obscurity as a share-crop country boy to prominence, from being a farm boy to steering the Ship of State in a wise and successful way is wonderful I have known this great and good man personally. All who read this story will enrich their lives as they are made to think of a man who experienced the biblical truth: 'No good thing will God withhold from them who walk uprightly' (Ps. 84:10)."
-Dr. Robert G. Lee, D.D.

You Are My Sunshine expertly treats the many talents of Jimmie Davis. His rise from a humble background to the Governor's Mansion, his success in the music field, his love for friends and family, and his delightfully humorous approach to life are all here to be read about and enjoyed.

James Houston Davis achieved success as a country-music singer before twice becoming the governor of Louisiana, in 1944 and 1960. In 1993, Davis was one of the first individuals to be inducted into the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame in Winnfield. Davis was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1971. A year later, he was chosen as an inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame. His most popular song, "You Are My Sunshine," became the Louisiana state song in 1977, won a Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 1999, and was named one of the Songs of the Century by the Recording Industry Association of America. In 2003, it was ranked seventy-third on Country Music Television's "100 Greatest Songs in Country Music." It is known and sung throughout the world.

An easy-reading and understandable book. Great!!!

I highly recommend this book to everyone, especially young teenagers who are getting ready to be adults. It is a light true picture of reality. This is a real education. This man, Jimmie Davis, surely knew how to cut hair when he tended a barber shop one day for a barber. He put a bowl on top of the customer's head and cut all around the bowl. Now that's nearly 100 years ago. This man will be one who has lived in 3 centuries. Get it!
