My name is Justin Thornhill, I am an aspiring poet from Vancouver Washington. I have spent this year compiling every poem I write into this book. I used to write music and songs, but my singing voice would deter me from publishing projects. I would get to self-conscious and end up scrapping a lot of ideas. For this book I set out to write 50 poems, and to keep every one of them. So, this book is the compilation of those poems. My biggest inspiration for this book, and the one person who kept me going, was my wife Markayla. "You Are My Home" as the title was inspired by her. I wanted to be as blunt and real as I possibly could during this. I wanted readers to see all my highs and lows and possibly learn something along the way. I grew up constantly feeling that what I felt inside was wrong. That it made me weak, and I would be too embarrassed to talk about it. When my walls finally came down to discuss what I felt inside, I discovered they weren't just feelings. Mental illnesses are very serious issues. I traded the typical structured or rhyming poems for a more straight forward approach. I wanted readers that feel what I feel to not feel alone. I wanted them to recognize that illness is serious, but not crippling. You are not defined by it. Your name is "Mark" not "Anxiety". My goal with this book, was to express myself poetically. But also, to connect with readers that either feel how I do or have an appreciation for those who do.
