Progressive key relationships are of little value to the beginner in the opinion of the author. Much more important is the left-hand relationship to the finger-board and its adaptation. This approach has been chosen for the Methods because of its simplicity and practicability. Necessary theoretical material has been scattered throughout the volumes as new principles are introduced. Basic mechanical principles of playing must be maintained by proper postures but the postures may vary depending upon the difference in size of hands and arms of individuals. The keys of G, D, A, and E Major, E, B, F#, and C# minor are presented with one-octave scales and arpeggiated chords founded upon the Tonic, Submediant and Subdominant of each instance. Melodic technical material, in these keys as well as original and attractive short pieces with a second violin part, are given. The principles of rhythm and the primary bowings, together with theoretical explanations, are scattered throughout the work.
