Mike M., A reviewer, January 16, 2002, RE: Yesterday's Reveille Although I usually read non-fiction (mostly history and military related subjects}, a good combination of those subjects in fiction will catch my eye. In the case of this book, I'm glad it did. It combines great story telling with more or less accurate historical perspective. The author himself says that he did take a few liberties, but they are small and the story flows nicely. Mr. Vaughan's ability to relate the subject matter in a descriptive and exiciting manner can almost make you feel that your Cpt. Murchisons (the main character)guidon bearer, next to him during the charge. The supporting characters do nothing to but add wonderfully to the story, and you're sorry to see their part end. If I have one complaint, its that Cpt. Murchison seems to be at every important historical event of his day. But to be fair, Mr. Vaughan is telling a story, which would be pretty dull without him being at of these events. My favorite thing about this book is that Mr. Vaughan gives an outstanding look at soliders who, dispite every disadvantage, still carried out their duty and secured a young nation. You may or may not agree with the political correctness of US military policy during the Indian Wars, but remember that soliders, whenever in history, don't make policy. They enforce it. Most soliders of that time did just what soliders today do. They receive orders and they follow them.If you have an interest in this period, if you want to have an idea of the daily life of a cav trooper in the old west, or you just want to read a very, very good book, I can't recommend this book enough. Good job, Mr. Vaghan, and GarryOwen, Sir!

Robert Vaughan

Vaughan is one of the very best writters regardless of the genre. This review is here mostly just to give the other readers a chance to see the author's name spelled correctly. Thank you. Max
