The present booklet consists of interviews I carried out with nine people who experienced severe illnesses or accidents. At some point in their medical treatment, they realized it was not enough to wait for a doctor or nurse or family member to come, look them over, examine their progress and make treatment recommendations. No They would have to make an effort by themselves to get better. They would have to exercise more, change to new eating habits, take back roles they had delegated to family members and friends and stop feeling victimized. The interviews were helpful to all of us. To me, as a chronically ill person, they were sources of inspiration. And to the interviewees, they offered a chance to see themselves in a different - more inspiring - light than that to which they were accustomed.
