I recently read this book some 30 years after the three year period the book describes. I was amazed because I was there for much of the time that Mr. Woodbury describes, I was only 11 at the time but some of it seems like yesterday!I went into it being a bit sceptical as I didn't think it would be as factual as is stated on the inside cover. But all of it is true including all of the colourful characters that Mr. Woodbury describes so well.He also describes St. Lucia very well including the expatriate cliques of which my parents were part of the yachting group that lived out of Vigie Creek.I remember very well the losses of life at sea and the rescues that were made.I also remember with sadness the day that the Visitor IV was lost on the reef and then beach at Anse Chastanet. My father went down that night with the Jylland as the Marine Surveyor to oversea the attempted salvage. The boat was so high up on the beach that when attempts were made to pull it off the beach the boat started to break up and was considered a total loss. I went down the next day and there were just pieces plus the keel still stuck in the sand.I greatly enjoyed reliving the memories and found Mr. Woodbury's writing style interesting and descriptive, however I'm not sure how this books would come across to those that were not there to live it. The story is a bit disjointed but otherwise a good first effort.
