Yaquina Bay Lighthouse was built first, then three years later the Yaquina Head Lighthouse was built, it seemed to confound sailors and mariners alike, and the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse was decommissioned. The beacons were French made lens, the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse with a third order lens, and the Yaquina Head Lighthouse was made with a first order lens. Newport was big and industrial as far as fur traders and miners were concerned, and it was the busiest port between San Francisco and Pugeut Sound.
