Yang Naiwu and Xiao Baicai/杨乃武与小白菜 [Chinese]

"This notorious late Qing Dynasty case (1873-1877) is one of China's ""Four Great Miscarriages of Justice"" (清末四大冤案). It involved a wrongful conviction, torture, and a dramatic appeal that reached Empress Dowager Cixi, exposing deep corruption in the Qing legal system.

This book is based on the four major mysteries of the late Qing Dynasty, ""Yang Naiwu and Little Cabbage,"" and is a legendary novel created through artistic processing. The author is Huang Nanding. During the reign of Emperor Tongzhi, Yang Naiwu and Ge Bishi were suspected of committing adultery and killing their husband. They were wrongly imprisoned and forced to confess. The case alarmed the court, and after several retrials, the case was clarified and the two individuals were cleared of guilt. After this case occurred, it was adapted into various art forms such as opera, Pingtan, and film. This novel is one of the more well-known ones, expressing criticism of the corruption and darkness of the judicial system in the late Qing Dynasty through artistic techniques.
