Charged me for a galley Proof

The copy of the book I was charged for was a "free professional copy." This copy was a galley proof originally provided to booksellers for review and should not have been resold.

A former student of Professor Strang

I was a student of Steven Strang back in 1994 at MIT. I thoroughly enjoyed his course, Personal Essay, and I am glad to have a remembrance from those days. This collection of personal essays, Writing Exploratory Essays, is a beautiful collection. I have kept a journal for the last 22 out of 29 years of my life and have found that the personal essay is a wonderful way to take what I have captured in my journal and re-package it for the outside reader. If you enjoy journal writing or reading about other people's lives, you will find this anthology of personal essays truly fulfilling and introspective. Surprisingly, by reading other people's personal viewpoints, you can learn much about yourself. This amazing collection will inspire you to write a few personal essays of your own. Professor Strang does an excellent job of helping out with that aspect as well.

Outstanding Resource for Aspiring Writers and Instructors

This book offers a range of readings from James Baldwin's Notes of a Native Son to Gloria Steinem's Unlearning Romance, plus readings by Woody Allen, Henry David Thoreau and Bharati Mukherjee. It's an inspiring collection for aspiring writers, who would like to master the art of the personal essay. I have used this book, both for my own writing and also for the university courses that I have taught. It also contains helpful chapters on writing beliefs, writing about relationships and writing about texts. My students have truly enjoyed this book for its variety, and its inspiring philosophies on writing by Joan Didion, Scott Sanders, Nancy Mairs and Annie Dillard. A thoughtful choice.
