Jesus warned, "If the salt loses its saltiness, it is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot." Too much salt in our diets may be harmful; yet, too little salt in society is detrimental When there isn't enough salt in food, it doesn't taste right. Something is missing. There was a Lays commercial, "Betcha can't eat just one?" There is something about salt that makes you want more. Salt is one of the oldest-known cleansing and purification agents. Many cultures use salt in rituals to purify spaces, objects-even people. "You are the light of the world." Jesus tells His Followers to be the salt and light of the world Anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear must realize the tragic results of withholding salt and light from society.
School shootings, along with increasing violence, teenage delinquency, the plague of homelessness, child trafficking and the scourge of addiction exposes how crucial it is to season modern society with salt and light. Civilized countries like the United States lose footing when righteous people refuse to engage in society, vote, speak up for truth and justice. Edmund Burke allegedly said, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Will YOU be the salt and light?
