David Nordley * Robert Reed * Kim Stanley Robinson * Pamela Sargent * Cordwainer Smith * Bruce Sterling * John Varley * Roger Zelazny These are the stories of the explorers and pioneers who transform their destinations in the image of their distant home--exciting tales of alien landscapes and the struggle to make them suit human desires.
A theme anthology that is specifically to do with terraforming, despite the somewhat more general title. It is set out in chronological order of story publication, from the fifties up to the late twentieth century. Dozois points out he has narrowed it down to actual physical terraforming projects - these often being of Mars and Venus. A reasonable book, with Sheffield's 'Out Of Copyright' the highlight, and probably the most different, along with Sterling.
