Be'naj and Saffron return to Zeblon, the city of Saffron's enslavement, to enlist the aid of the Circle of Twelve. They revealed the existence of a book, the Grimoire Precario, that details the workings and locations of Elisahd's Touchstones - the sites binding the world to the Planes of the four Elements. Normally in balance, the Touchstones are in danger of being realigned to the Plane of Shadow by the Dread Lich, Hadrian No More. In order to lock the Touchstones first, Be'naj and her companions will first have to infiltrate the Iron Fortress of Hadrian No More and steal the Grimoire Precario out from under him.

Thaelios and Dyphina have been tasked with thwarting The Name of the Beast. After recruiting Jaiden Luminere to their cause, the group returns to Blackfeather Perch to pass along the tidings of Cauzel's Death. They meet Cauzel's sister, Lorelei Furthalion, who introduces Thaelios to the Wardens of the Exiled, the Elllafous Order sworn to protect the secrets of the Eladrin cities abandoned during the Revenge of Arkmus. Unconvinced that the Wardens are prepared for the Name of the Beast, Thaelios determines to visit Rinn-Rhulian himself to assess the threat.

Annoxoria has to clean up the mess Drachenmark made for itself. Sepathia successfully turned their strategy of terrorizing the Ifelian Corridor against them, bringing Pasaxtree to the verge of declaring war on the fledgling nation. When the apprentices of Cauzel Blackfeather show up asking for safe passage to Rinn-Rhulian, Annoxoria agrees under one condition: they help her and Thuvian eliminate his troublesome Nightwing sister.

Serious obstacles threaten to derail the efforts of Elisahd's would-be saviors at every turn.
