The Best Book to Begin Writing and Reading Workshops
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 18 years ago
I have been looking for a book that gives a step-by-step approach to reading and writing workshop. Workshops That Works by Kirsten Widmer is that book. I have been trying to implement these workshops but have only been able to implement parts of them. The author of this book took the reader through fifteen lessons each, from start to finish to extensions, for reading and writing workshops. Because of this book, I have been able to implement the workshop format into my middle school classes. This book is a must read if you are a teacher who is serious about implementing the reading and/or writing workshop into your classroom.

This book is perfect for those teachers who want to start a Reader's and Writer's Workshop in their classrooms but are confused as to where to begin. The book basically tells you what mini lessons to teach and how to teach them the first month of school. This book is definitely worth purchasing!!
Finally....a Practical Book for Classroom Use!!

I've read a lot of books for perfecting classroom practice but there are few that provide teachers with the actual "nuts and bolts" practicality that new teachers need. Literacy teachers who need a handle on the workshop model (both reading and writing) need look no further than "Workshops that Work". Having had the privilege to work alongside both these teachers and see them in action, I can tell you firsthand that they've managed to capture their classroom magic on the printed page- this is a tome that can stand proudly next to books by Calkins, Fletcher, Robb and other experts in the field!
