Book Overview

The Complete Works: Modern Critical Edition is part of the landmark New Oxford Shakespeare--an entirely new consideration of all of Shakespeare's works, edited afresh from all the surviving original versions of his work, and drawing on the latest literary, textual, and theatrical scholarship.

In one attractive volume, the Modern Critical Edition gives today's students and playgoers the very best resources they need to understand and enjoy all Shakespeare's works. The authoritative text is accompanied by extensive explanatory and performance notes, and innovative introductory materials which lead the reader into exploring questions about interpretation, textual variants, literary criticism, and performance, for themselves.

The Modern Critical Edition presents the plays and poetry in the order in which Shakespeare wrote them, so that readers can follow the development of his imagination, his engagement with a rapidly evolving culture and theatre, and his relationship to his literary contemporaries.

The New Oxford Shakespeare consists of four interconnected publications: the Modern Critical Edition (with modern spelling), the Critical Reference Edition (with original spelling), a companion volume on Authorship, and an online version integrating all of this material on OUP's high-powered scholarly editions platform. Together, they provide the perfect resource for the future of Shakespeare studies.

Amazing content

Contained everything we were looking for in one place. Perfect content. Unfortunately, will need to repurchase at a later date due to condition (way too much writing and so many highlights).

Good book, bad condition!

Good book but terrible condition, should really reassess what is considered "like new" or "good condition". Getting sick of it as a customer. Then they stick stickers all over it so gets further damaged when trying to remove them. Book lovers wouldn't stick stickers all over books.

Excellent condition and read!

I love this book, especially since I won a best actor award in college for Othello as Othello. Every work is timeless and filled with universal themes. I donated my copy to a kid in college, and now I'm ordering another copy for myself as an award-winning screenwriter. Shakespeare understood human nature and created some of the best characters ever. I believe everyone should read Shakespeare because he really helps you understand why people do what they do, much like people in the Bible, and his stories are very entertaining.

Very Happy

A very affordable collection of Shakespeare’s works! My copy arrived a few days early, and was closer to “Very Good” condition (I ordered Good because they were out of Very Good), which was a pleasant surprise. Overall I’m very happy with my new book, and I can’t wait to read it.

Extremely pleased

The book arrived quickly...this book looks new...it appears that it has never been read...it's a beautiful book, to say the least...I'm anxious to read it

Very Good

It was a very good read and I liked the binding too.

Shakespeare

I am returning this book . Letters too small for me to read . Have to find a better edition .

A forever reference set

Keep this in your library - not only does it look good it feels good. You will always have Shakespeare on hand to get in your literary fix. Shakespeare in a serious readers library is a must!

In what scale can we truly measure the value of a book? Ignoring how many pieces of silver we must exchange for them, the worth of books should be counted through their enrichment of our lives.

The Beauty of Exploring Poetry

As a reader, and an avid one at that, I struggle to apply the same level of zeal to poetry as I have my more preferred topics, such as historic fiction, or biography. Yet every April, when the lilac bushes in my lawn are thronged with flowers, I find myself quoting, "When lilacs last in the dooryard bloomed…"

Margaret Atwood is 81 years old today! The renowned Canadian author has been publishing poetry, novels, nonfiction, children’s books, and more since 1961, but her star just keeps on rising. Known largely for books like The Handmaid’s Tale, you may be surprised to learn that speculative fiction actually represents a small fraction of the versatile author’s work.
