This book is excellent for IT managers and consultants. Itdoes a very good job in explaining the concept and application ofworkflow systems in clear, easy-to-understand words. However we found that it lacks detailed information or examples about the actual implementation of an workflow system, such as exactly how to translate the high-level model into a Entity-Relationship model, and eventually into a relational database design. We are in the process of designing a generic web-based workflow management system prototype. We studied numerous workflow books, white papers, and the Workflow Management Coalition's Workflow Reference Model. We have read about many high level design concepts, such as the event trigger model, SAP's EPC (event driven process chain) model, etc.
