Book Overview

""The Worker In Sandalwood"" is a novel written by Marjorie Lowry Christie Pickthall and published in 1914. The story takes place in India during the British colonial period and follows the life of a young woman named Kamala who is born into a family of sandalwood workers. Kamala is a skilled carver and dreams of creating beautiful works of art from the precious wood. However, she is faced with many obstacles, including the oppressive social and economic conditions of her caste, as well as the interference of the British authorities who seek to exploit the valuable resource. As Kamala struggles to assert her independence and pursue her passion, she is drawn into a web of political intrigue and rebellion. Along the way, she meets a young British officer named Richard who is sympathetic to her cause and becomes her ally. Together, they navigate the complex social and political landscape of colonial India, fighting against injustice and oppression. ""The Worker In Sandalwood"" is a powerful and moving novel that explores themes of identity, class, and colonialism. It offers a nuanced and insightful portrayal of the lives of ordinary people caught up in the tumultuous events of history, and celebrates the resilience and creativity of the human spirit in the face of adversity. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. A Wonderful Christmas Tale

This is a wonderful Christmas miracle story about a young apprentice who is left to finish some carving on Christmas Eve. The amount of work he must complete is impossible, but miracles can happen... especially on Christmas. The beautiful paintings by Canadian illustrator Frances Tyrell make the story come alive. This book makes a wonderful addition child's Christmas story book collection.
