Artfully done

This is a brief text compiled by Tomas Vium Olesen, and designed by Pete Burke. It is intended as a presentation book, and can be used as a gift for baptisms, confirmations, occasions of joining a church, or other such moments. The book is very simply in concept -- it consists two main parts. Part 1 has eight brief sections on types and intentions of prayers out of scripture. Here are prayers for love, relationships, guidance, contemplation, forgiveness, healing, and more. There are excerpts that show the mystery of prayer, the fellowship and communal nature of prayer, and the struggles of prayer.The second part of the book lists particular prayers out of scripture. Here is included Moses' prayer from Exodus, Samson's prayer from Judges, David's prayer, Nehemiah's prayer, and more. From the New Testament scriptures, prayers include both the Lord's Prayer (found in Matthew) and the Jesus Prayer (found in the gospel of John), in addition to prayers from Acts, Paul, and the Revelation to John.Accompanying these prayers are beautiful, full-colour, glossy prints of famous art work. For example, facing the Lord's Prayer is a bright and vibrant print of Van Gogh's painting of Crown Imperial Fritillaries (flowers); facing David's somewhat mournful prayer of psalm 86, there is a dark print from Monet (Rocks at Belle-Ile) and another from Marcus Larson (Rocky Landscape with Waterfall in Smaland). As the frontpieces for each of the eight sections in part one, there are watermarked prints of mosaics from Ravenna, with highlights of some of the more spectacular details.The text here is taken from the New King James Version, as a nod both to tradition and contemporary expression. The book is small format, but lovely to behold, graceful in the grasp, and produced with heavy-duty binding and paper that will last for years of use.
