Word Salad: When Every Conversation Leaves You More Confused Than Before
You walked away confused. Possibly apologizing. Probably feeling worse than when you started. And the thing you went in to address was still unresolved, not because you talked it through, but because the conversation moved in so many directions that your original concern got buried under all of them.
This is word salad: the deliberate or habitual use of language to confuse, exhaust, derail, and control. The confusion isn't a side effect. It's the outcome being sought.
In this book, you'll learn:
The seven forms word salad takes, from deflection to reframing to philosophical tangents that go nowhere
Why it works so well: the cognitive load strategy that overwhelms your ability to think clearly and hold your ground
How DARVO and word salad work together to turn your original concern into your fault
Why explaining yourself more clearly never fixes it, and what actually does
How to recognize it in real time instead of only in the exhausted replay afterward
The broken record technique and other tools for holding your footing in a conversation designed to move you off it
Written in the same clear, no-jargon style as her other books on manipulation and psychological abuse, this is for anyone who has left a conversation feeling scrambled, unheard, and somehow more in the wrong than when they walked in.
The confusion was never a failure of your understanding. It was the point. This book will help you see it clearly, finally.
