This book originated from a Ph. D. thesis which was submitted to the Department of Ancient Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, Harvard University, in 1987. Though the general format remains pratically the same, many parts of the original work have been fully rewritten. The term word order used in this work refers to the relative order among the functional constituents of a sentence known as subject, verb, object. There has not been any systematic investigation of the word order variation in the Akkadian of Byblos.
