Appearing in their first story, Kristy, her brother, Bryan, and their friend Jesse discover the magical world of Clohverville, a village existing right underneath their beds where those wonderful Villager Dust Bunnies, the Ohmadillapicklearoos, live. When Bryan wonders why he can't do well at soccer like other children, George Ohmadillapicklearoo ("Mr. Oh" for short) appears, equipped with his tools of wisdom and experience. Mr. Oh then takes Kristy, Bryan and Jesse on an adventure in the Village of Clohverville--where, coincidentally, Mr. and Mrs. Oh, their son, Bo, and their friends Looloo Palloo and the Widow Buttons present Special Gifts Day, a day in which Bryan discovers that he is a very unique and special boy, even if he isn't very good at soccer and other sports.
I just got finished reading this delightful book to my first grade boy. It is the first in a new series. We have read a lot of books together such as Arthur, the Magic Tree House, A-Z Mysteries etc. It is exciting to find a new series of books that he absolutely loves. His eyes never left the page. I am sure the story will capture your child's attention from the first page. The plot quickly moves from the main characters (three children) talking about their loss in a soccer game earlier that day to the discovery of a magical world under their bed. In this world, a charming rabbit, Mr. Oh, leads the children through a magical land where they discover that each of them has a special gift to give to others and that each of them is "wonderfully made." Not only is the writing first-rate, but the illustrations are vivid and jump off of the page. The illustrator is able to convey what the story is telling in a very colorful and exciting way. My child and I could not wait to turn the page to see what the next picture was. If you are looking for a very creative story that teaches lessons about character with wonderful pictures, you need to read this book!
