'Women, Wildflowers' is a poetry collection about being a woman without sugar-coating what that actually means. It explores love, sex, identity, self-worth, relationships, trauma, inequality, and all the complicated things that come with being a woman in today's world. Some poems are gentle and vulnerable, while others are confronting, political, controversial, and unapologetically honest. It's a poetry collection about women as we really are: imperfect, strong, angry, loving, messy, and everything else in between.

Welcome to 'Women, Wildflowers.'

I wrote this book because I wanted to write about women honestly. I don't mean the polished version of womanhood you see in advertisements and the media; I mean the real version. The uncomfortable bits, the beautiful bits, and the things we talk about with our friends at two o'clock in the morning but wouldn't say out loud in a crowded room.

Some of these poems are going to make you feel understood, while others might make you feel uncomfortable.
A few might even make you angry.
I think I'm okay with that.

I didn't want to write a poetry collection that was afraid of having an opinion. There are poems here about subjects that are difficult, controversial, and sometimes downright uncomfortable, including sexual assault, inequality, and the expectations placed on women in today's society.

I think poetry should be allowed to make you feel something other than warm and fuzzy.

Wildflowers don't grow according to a set of rules. They grow wherever they happen to take root, in whatever conditions they're given, and they still manage to bloom. I think women are a lot like that. Some of us had an easy place to grow; some of us had to grow through things that should have broken us. Some of us bloom early, some late, and some of us spend years wondering if we'll ever bloom at all. But there's no deadline.

Whether you're here because you want something beautiful, something relatable, something that makes you angry, or something that makes you feel seen, I hope you find something in this little poetry collection that stays with you.

Because women were never meant to bloom in just one way.
We were meant to be wild.
