Six years after leaving destroyed Petaluma with Jason Wolfe and the other Victorians, Raven is hunting with Emmie when they encounter a woman pierced by two arrows, carrying an infant, leading a young girl, and fleeing from two archers.
With powers they have learned to control over the past six years, they stop the assault and capture one of the archers. While taking everyone back to their riverside village of Wolfehaven, they learn the assassins were sent after her by the same fanatical bigot whose army of thugs they had fought six years earlier, and that he is still crusading to eliminate anyone accomplishing feats that he believes can only be empowered by Satan.
Their village, Wolfehaven, welcomes the woman and her children and heals her wounds. She is shocked to observe abilities in common use that the man ruling her village condemns as evil. While she works to accept it all, most of Wolfehaven's people prepare for their multi-boat voyage upriver for an annual festival and trade fair with another village.
Meanwhile, the assassin they had captured and brought back with them escapes and returns to inform his 'Prophet' of Wolfehaven's location and of demonic feats he witnessed there.
With all but a few of Wolfehaven's citizens away, will the Prophet's new army succeed in destroying the witches' haven, or will the urgent call for their return bring them back in time?
