A spiritual testimony is a person's living witness of God's tangible act. It is their evidence or proof to themselves and others of God's involvement in life's experiences, even if that involvement cannot be fully explained. It is assurance of God's love for them. It is each one's religious or spiritual story that is the essence of their faith. It is what connects us to God. Testimonies do not have to be great literature, long, or particularly wise. They can be confirming, instructive, and moving to tears. They are God-centered, with power to carry us and remind us that God is as alive and active in our lives today as in times of old, if we look for him and pay attention. This book includes testimonies of God's physical protection; the meaning of baptism; conversion experiences; how congregations help us love, learn, and grow; and how God may slow us down to really see the beauty in his creation. It includes testimonies of love, hope, fear, and dreams of an imperfect people in an imperfect world doing their best to know, love, and serve a perfect creator. The testimonies are as diverse as the personalities and faith journeys of the witnesses who shared them. This book is our congregation's communal effort to take the power of a testimony service, the renewal of our own faith when we hear another's inner-faith story, the magic of our community life, and offer them in a portable form that others may benefit from the telling of the sacred story. I commend these stories to you for the same purpose God commended his important work to Abraham: "I will bless you . . . so that you will be a blessing." (Genesis 12:2) From the foreword by Ted L. Tinsman, Pastor, Chapel for Peace, Springfield, Missouri.
