I knew Commander Gaither as he was commander of SERE school at North Island when I was a student. He was shot down as an ensign on his first flight over North Vietnam. This book is his story of captivity that lasted seven years. What you won't find in the book is that he had to punch out of yet another F-4 after regaining flight status after his long confinement. About torture. I remember him saying, "I can hang you up on that wall there by your thumbs and you'll tell me anything I want."
Very thought-provoking

Ralph Gaither's account of his 7+ years in a Vietnamese POW camp is a very powerful book. It is amazing that he emerged from this horrifying experience free from emotional or psychological problems. I have met Ralph, and he is an extraordinary individual. After meeting and getting to know him, I read this book and was in awe. What an incredible experience. This book shows how Ralph's Faith and Hope never wavered during that horrific nightmare as a prisoner of war. Very eye-opening.
