Picture a five-year-old boy sitting in a small clearing every summer waiting for the first star of the evening to appear so he can wish on it to wake up in the morning as the girl he knew he really was. This is the story of a monumental struggle of a young man to fit into a society that demands he be something he is not. He tries everything from joining the military to becoming a husband and a father but nothing works. The feeling that he is in the wrong body remains but he doesn't have the courage to make the change he so desperately needs. After years of torment, he discovers it's not courage that he needs at all - but the conviction that if he doesn't do this, he will die.This story is told with great sadness but with even greater humor, teaching the reader what it is like to be transgender but laughing at the antics of a youngster ignorant in physiology but knowing his isn't right. The story is designed to give those going through this awful condition hope that there actually IS light at the end of that long, dark tunnel and also to help others understand so they can offer the help, the support and the love that all people deserve.
