Wishful Thinking

Meet Elliott Simon, the neurotic and totally lovable hero of Wishful Thinking, a young man with a vivid imagination looking for romance, happiness and excitement in all the wrong places.

From his unconquerable addiction to cupcakes to his quest for finding the absolute perfect dream lover to his burning desire to become a 'toast of the town" cabaret singer, Elliott Simon's wild and crazy adventures in Wishful Thinking are hilarious and endearing.

Who else but Elliott Simon would travel back in time to the biblical sin city of Sodom with a famous movie superstar, dodge the Confederate Civil War draft by disguising in drag as a coquettish Southern belle, transform the President of the United States into a gay man for 24 hours and become Hollywood sleuth to solve the mystery of the missing infamous Pink Powder Puff? And that is only the beginning

Wishful Thinking is the debut novel from the former Hollywood Reporter entertainment journalist Martin Gould.

a laugh bonanza

This is a really funny and entertaining book. Give your friends the gift of laughter with a copy of Wishful Thinking. They will thank you for it. I am still smiling weeks after reading it.

Terrifically entertaining book!

Kudos to first-time novelist Martin Gould. I knew from the first chapter when we meet our protagonist, the slightly flawed but lovable gay man Elliott Simon, that I would adore this book. I was immediately drawn into Elliott's wildly- imaginative world and his adventures in search of love and fulfillment. Having a gay son, I found this book to be enlightening, heartwarming, and laugh-out-loud funny. I highly recommend this book for there is something in it for everyone to relate to and enjoy. A great read!

Hilarious Tales of The City

Martin Gould has concocted a refreshing mix of humorous and clever stories. They center around the experiences and fantasies of Elliot Simon, a very likable, single, gay, man-hungry protagonist. These amusing and touching vignettes are recounted in a style similar to both TALES OF THE CITY and SEX AND THE CITY. Like TALES OF THE CITY, the stories have a gay male prospective and some wonderfully wacky characters and like SEX IN THE CITY, the action occurs mostly in the environs of New York City as Elliot searches high and low through the bars, the gyms and the glamorous world of Broadway for the perfect dream man. What happens along the way is side splittingly funny and often quite heart warming. As his journey unfolds, you will meet Elliot's family (loved the grandmother and the Hollywood make up artist cousin!), friends, co-workers (wait until you meet Rayna and Melina), would-be-lovers, movie stars and even a U.S. President... and you will find yourself delighted from beginning to end! Don't miss this fine book. You will get chuckles galore and you will wish for more of Elliot and his screw ball escapades in the very near future. Hopefully Mr. Gould is already writing the follow up.

couldn't put it down!

What a read and I'm not gay! Elliot is lovable and what an imagination Martin has. The best was the last chapter, very smart how he came full circle wrapping up all his stories and adventures into a nice neat package. Bravo!! When is the next one coming out!?!? Or better yet sell it as a sitcom, what a hoot!

VERY FUNNY STUFF!

WISHFUL THINKING is truly a very funny novel. While reading it, I laughed out loud more times than I could count. This author has a really wild imagination. I kept wondering what inspires him to come up with these crazy and kooky story ideas. And his main character is extremely likeable and reminded me of someone I know (and adore)! This is definitely a really entertaining read. Buy it as a gift for your best gay friend.....he or she will LOVE it (and you for getting it)!!!!
