Book Overview

Dream, the standalone companion to Wish, out now

The #1 New York Times-bestselling middle-grade novel about a girl who, with the help of a true-blue friend, a big-hearted aunt and uncle, and the dog of her dreams, unexpectedly learns the true meaning of family in the least likely of places. Perfect for fans of Katherine Applegate and Kate DiCamillo.

Eleven-year-old Charlie Reese has been making the same secret wish every day since fourth grade. She even has a list of all the ways there are to make the wish, such as cutting off the pointed end of a slice of pie and wishing on it as she takes the last bite. But when she is sent to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina to live with family she barely knows, it seems unlikely that her wish will ever come true. That is until she meets Wishbone, a skinny stray dog who captures her heart, and Howard, a neighbor boy who proves surprising in lots of ways. Suddenly Charlie is in serious danger of discovering that what she thought she wanted may not be what she needs at all.

Really sweet book

This is an easy-ish chapter book about a girl who has to live with family members she doesn't really know. Although she's uncomfortable at first, she grows to appreciate the people around her. The story isn't overly rosy. I think it's a particularly great book for kids in foster care because they would be able to relate to a lot of the main character's feelings. Her circumstances don't necessarily change for the better during the book, but she grows and adapts to them. There's a message of how you can overcome obstacles even if you can't change them. It would be good for around ages 8-12.

An Adorable Book

Perfect for the downtrodden child who may be on hard luck or has been in the past. It's not a fully uplifting book but it shows the promise of hope for the main character's future.

Fun book

Arrived in great shape. I haven't had time to read the book yet, but it looks like a lovely tale.
