Wisdom has various ways of traveling. She can be imparted through the oral tradition of storytelling, visual demonstrations, and verbal instructions, as well as through various literary works. Many people confuse having the riches of knowledge with attaining wisdom. Wisdom is more than the accumulation of data. It is the accumulation of that which causes true wealth. Knowledge decorates the house but it is by wisdom that the house is built. Knowledge makes the building attractive, but wisdom makes the building endure. Wisdom is a guiding, guarding, and governing spirit that has preserved generations for ages. Those who have expertise in any form of craftsmanship have recognized the usefulness of building upon a sure and level foundation. A Wise master builder establishes his work on a foundation of understanding. A proverb is a Mashal which means a "comparison". The book of proverbs is a book of parallelism for the purpose of expressing a precept or principle. In Wisdom literature, the writing style can also be considered "riddles" or "dark sayings". There is more to what is being said than what is said. A proverb can be seen as a concentrated parable while a parable can be viewed as the extension of a proverb. The proverb is the theme of the parable. You can create stories out of proverbs or discover the proverbs at the heart of a story. One primary attribute found in proverbs is the poetic sentiment rather than its scientific accuracy. One must listen beyond the surface to hear wisdom speak.
