This is a new and annotated edition of "Wippchen's Gedichte" (Wippchen's Poems) published in 1889 by Julius Stettenheim (1831-1916). It includes: * A comprehensive introduction on the author, historical background, book, and edition. * Extensive notes with explanations for uncommon and obsolete words as well as persons and historical background. Julius Stettenheim was one of the leading German humorists and satirists of his time. In 1877 he created the character of "Wippchen", a war correspondent who never leaves his home and just makes up his reports out of thin air. Wippchen was so popular that Julius Stettenheim expanded the franchise also to poems. Wippchen now applied the same contrived and hollow style to this genre that had already made his war reporting funny. This is the first of two volumes. The second was published in 1894 as "Wippchen's Gedichte - Neue Folge" (Wippchen's Poems - New Series). All texts are in German.
