If Washington politics is Hardball , Ed Gillespie shows how the game is really played With a fresh, new insider's perspective, the former chairman of the Republican National Committee draws from lessons learned in more than twenty years of campaign strategy and national policy debate -- most especially from his role at the heart of the historic and groundbreaking 2004 presidential election -- to reveal how the game of politics is played on its highest level. In a frank and engaging narrative, he looks inside the George W. Bush presidency and beyond, to discuss such topics as - A political code of ethics and playing by the rules - Successes and failures in campaign planning and execution - The role of old and new media - The battle for the Supreme Court - Hot-button issues - The future of the GOP -- and how to win right in 2008.

"Winning Right" is a must read for anyone interested in politics and how to win elctions and win them in an honorable way. Both Ed Gillespie and his wife Cathy are very "savvy" and very "street smart". Ed is a very good writer and tells it like it is. Ed is a bright shining star in the Republican party. Gillespie's book is chock full of great anecdotes about the many elected officials and other characters he has worked with through the years. While some think political people are all anger and hard eges, this book shows that players in this business can be (indeed should be) decent and respectful of their opponents. Gillespie's policy prescriptions at the end of the book are sound, and some were new to me, and the section about his work in helping the recent Supreme Court nominees offered some interesting insider information. This book is good fun, a quick and interesting read. I highly recommend it.
