when curts best friend daryl suffers a minor heart attack in their first track race of the season and can no longer run, Curt becomes the number 1 half miler on the team. curt becomes very popular at school. daryl's father, who has always coached the two boys was giving all of his attention to Curt. when Daryl is drivin by jealosy and starts to run again, he dies in the championship race. this is a great book and is well written. i would recomend it to anyone.
