Story of Emma Winthrop felt penniless on the death of her husband and has to leave Philadelphia to go and live with her husbands stepbrother and mother. Must to her dismay, the home is a plantation worked by slaves and for which she has no understanding, rummors regarding the dealth or murder? of Grayson Sinclairs wife and voodoo. This is a well written romance set in precivil war eastern texas on a cotton plantation. I particularly liked how the author handled Gray's feeling regarding the slave issue and his feeling of being trapped by the time, laws of Texas and responsiblities.
