Book Overview

Renee Thompson is a strong, beautiful Black woman who has done relatively well for herself. By her late twenties she had already acquired a master's degree, a plush condo, a posh ride, a good corporate job with a Fortune 500 company, and a handsome well-to-do man. When Renee loses the latter, her life becomes a downward spiral causing her to seriously reevaluate her priorities.

Through numerous flashbacks, Renee goes back in time and relives the trials that she encountered growing up in the gritty streets of Chicago, such as being kidnapped by the mother who abandoned her and possibly having to strip to take care of herself. Not until Renee recalls her childhood does she realize that it was never her hard work or material things that brought her real joy. It was the love and "put God first and everything else will be added unto you" wisdom of the grandmother that raised her that made Renee who she is.

Windy City Woes is a roller-coaster ride of wild emotions and vivid memories that provokes the question: Will Renee get her life back in order before she is reunited with her grandmother?
