Very useful, is probably the only one of it's kind!

I found this book to be VERY helpful in my rollout of WIndows NT and will continue to use it throughout the course of the project. I would have whole-heartly given it five stars if not for the extreme amount of typo's and incorrect syntax found. It sometimes made the author hard to understand and caused some havoc in the scripting process... At times I had to forcebly remind myself to check other sources including TechNet and the Windows NT Deployment guide. Overall though, I must commend the author for finally putting all the information in one easy to reach place... Thanks. DB.

THE book on mass deployment of 4.0 workstation.

Creation of Distibution share point. Case studies, security examples, all the command switches explained! Even a sane solution for "cloning" NT is covered... Made my life so SO much nicer...

The best way to deploy NT workstations

I also had the pleasure of reviewing this book before it was published. I know it is not fun to sit in front of a computer, much less 50, and install Windows NT. With this book, NT deployment can be done quickly and easily. Richard does a wonderful job of explaining this seldom used gem hidden in NT. If you are planning on installing any number of NT workstations, and have not considered automated deployment, you NEED to read this book!

A valuable resource for deploying Windows NT

In the past, people deploying Windows NT had few options. Microsoft's documentation on automating NT installations was often abstruse, incomplete and required hours of trial-and-error experimentation to implement. As a simpler alternative, many administrators chose to use cloning technologies to duplicate NT systems. Yet this approach caused a wide variety of problems related to SID duplication. With either approach it was not uncommon for administrators to spend almost as much time solving installation problems as would have been spent manually installing the OS. This book provides a better alternative. The author has created a clear, detailed and concise guide on how to automate and customize Windows NT installations using standard MS tools. He has taken great pains to help the reader understand what is taking place during an unattended installation and how to avoid common pitfalls. In fact, for those who still want to clone their NT systems, there is an appendix which describes how to do it without the need for a SID changer. Yet over and above its value as an installation guide, the book provides a great deal of information on how to efficiently maintain the NT environment. For instance, many administrators will be surprised to learn that they can remotely maintain their NT systems without the purchase of special software tools or packages. While I know the author, I can still objectively state that the material in the book works and has been applied in real world settings. It's worth the price.

An invaluable resource for anyone deploying Windows NT

I had a wonderful opportunity to review this book before it was published. As it happened, I also had to deploy nine NT workstations over a weekend at my office. With the help of the book, I was able to quickly and easily load the OS and configure these workstations. Considering that the material was still in a preliminary form, I was very impressed. This will be an important part of my administrator's toolkit.
