Monty Wilton is a self-made man, with a natural gift for creating and retaining relationships, he knows will be called upon, to guard him from the inevitable consequences of his actions.

Having sold his business empire, Monty purchases and renovates an historic mansion in a small English village. He is living his lifelong dream, instantly becoming part of the community.

As an old adversary reemerges, Monty is confronted with a potential problem greater than he has ever had to face before. Aided by his best friend and solicitor CP Lawson, they plan their defense in their normal non-litigious manner.

Set to the backdrop of two leadership battles at differing ends of the political ladder, our protagonists are aided by friends, colleagues, gentry and the somewhat unstable. They must manoeuvre from attack to retreat, before arriving at fortification and outright battle. When all their plans seem to be failing, the estate offers support from unexpected and slightly ill-advised activities.
