War is rapidly approaching in Europe as Adolf Hitler pressures Austria, his first target of conquest and the land of his birth. Sean O'Connell and his new wife, Stormie Danger O'Connell are sent to Germany by their parents to learn the art of rescue from Klaus and Gisela von Brandt who are working to save the lives of people interred at the Dachau Concentration Camp. When their skills have sufficiently matured, Sean and Stormie are dispatched to Vienna to set up a rescue mission there to save Jews once the Anschluss occurs. The Family, under the leadership of Admiral Will Danger, find a dread brewing beneath the surface of their operation. A fear is growing that one of their own, one of the most intimate and important members of The Family must soon perish. When Danger learns of the mission his daughter and The Kid's son are setting up, he moves The Family's entire operation to the Mediterranean to support the coming operation. Through it all, he must lead The Family through the dread that one of their own will soon die. It taxes his ability as a leader and the stability of the entire unit. No one is sure that Sean and Stormie, the one's who are in the most apparent peril, will not be the ones lost, until the rescue mission goes sour and things fall apart on the shore of a lonely lake in Austria far from help from any of The Family.
