The modern mafia culture underpinnings crop up at different points in the novel as it delves into an extensive discussion on cultural idiosyncrasies and their effect on modern society. It presents a juxtaposition of contemporary American and Indian cultures in particular and weaves through the complexities of looking at a situation through multiple cultural lenses. It raises questions around the ideal definition of success through the journeys of its characters and the collective reckoning they face at the end of the novel. Interspersed with humor and witty repartees, the story transitions from serious conundrums to light-hearted reflection with ease in order to paint a truly colorful picture of what it means to be a New Yorker and a global citizen.
