Not That Impressive

Maureen Child is a fine author; I've read and enjoyed many of her books. I was a bit disappointed in this tale. From the beginning I had reservations- not well received, REDUNDANT. Liam was rather closed off- his prejudices against wealthy women and their perceived goals of deception resonated and were REPEATED ad nauseum. As was Liam's goal to satisfy his debt to Sterling Perry and turn his attention to his own ranch. While I appreciated Liam's intelligence, (MIT Graduate), innovative ideas and patents- the sharp investments, his determination and grit- the stereotypes experience instilled were jaded. I admired Aria- the woman who challenged Liam's long-held beliefs about women of wealth. Aria was strong, determined to break the mold her parents wanted her to fit. I admired her independence; she was goal- oriented and willing to do whatever it took to realize her dream of a Cowgirl Camp. The outline of her proposed project must be reviewed and approved by Liam to become a reality. I found the concept weak; unrealistic expectations based on the fantasy of a girl. So the premise for Liam & Aria was weak- making the framework of the tale weak in my mind. There was no build-up to the physical relationship between the two protagonists- and the emotional connection Aria feels for Liam came too quickly without reciprocation. I was more than halfway through the book before it earned my interest. Since it's part of a series, I was afraid to miss pertinent developments in the underlying tale the series tells if I gave up on the book. I was pleased I stuck with it; Child was descriptive, the conclusion was sweet and redeeming. Overall, it was an okay read.
