Not bad, considering...

We saw a glimpse of Susan's insecurity way back in book 1, and now she's finally atoning for her actions in that story. But a couple of continuity errors: First, if she met Bruce the first week of school, how did he even make an impression on her? I thought she was all hung up on John Wickland at that time? Second, in book 1, Susan was the scheming, vindictive one, and Daphne was the one who reluctantly went along with her, against her better judgement. Now those roles are reversed, but made to sound as if *Susan's* always been passive and under *Daphne's* thumb. ???Also, I didn't like the scene between Susan and Cynthia. When someone apologizes, it's poor form to respond with a threat. One would think that Cynthia had worked through her persecution complex by now, but obviously not. Granted, Susan's *not* the only person who has to be served, and her tone probably *wasn't* diplomatic by a long shot, but she was *not* out of line for merely *asking* for milk that wasn't about to go off. Cynthia ought to look at herself: if people do treat her like she's low-class, perhaps it's because she comes off that way. However, I did like finding out what Susan and Daphne's backstory is. And I'm glad that the excessive drinking and smoking that nearly all the characters indulge in was finally shown to have consequences, but realistic ones as opposed to a big dramatic drunken car wreck or something. And poor Betty with her fixation on the exotic music director! I assume that if there'd been a book 9, it would have been hers. And one last thing: The model who posed for the cover of this book is easily the most beautiful one featured in this series.
