Widget and the Spookies

By Susan Peltier, Jaedon Fontenette, Catherine Grantham

Widget had a rough night.

Every shadow looked suspicious. Every strange noise sounded like something creeping through the house. And Widget was certain there might be monsters, ghosts, and other spookies hiding in the dark.

Fortunately, Aunt Beep knows that sometimes the things that seem frightening become much less scary when you take a closer look.

Together, Widget and Aunt Beep investigate the mysterious things that have been worrying him. The terrifying monster under the bed turns out to be his favorite Robo-Bunny. The creature hiding in the closet is only a fluffy jacket. Strange shapes on the wall are shadows from tree branches, and frightening whispers outside are really the sounds of a friendly neighborhood kitten.

Even the ghost floating in the hallway has a perfectly ordinary explanation. With Aunt Beep beside him, Widget begins to understand that his imagination can sometimes turn everyday sights and sounds into something much scarier than they really are.

By facing each fear instead of hiding from it, Widget discovers that the dark does not have to be frightening-and that when he needs help, Aunt Beep is there. By the end of the story, the spookies no longer seem so spooky after all.
