Thoroughly original, delightfully fun

Linda Wisdom has created another wonderful fast, fun read - a tremendous way to spend an evenings after a grueling day at work. Her books transport you right into the world of magic for adults and it can be fun or a bit scary. Linda Wisdom has a talent for taking a mundane image and turning it on its head. For example, we always think of lawyers as lower than a snake but she takes that image and transforms it into Trevor, Stasi's love interest in Wicked By Any Other Name. Trevor is one hot warlock of a lawyer you wouldn't mind having on your side. Wisdom also takes the elf archetype (heroic, yada yada) and creates a wonderfully evil villain. Thoroughly original, delightfully fun, this is a series you don't want to miss.

Very wicked, funny and sexy!!!

I went to the bookstore looking for the first book in this series by Linda Wisdom 50 ways to hex your lover, but they didn't have it. They had this one it sounded good so I bought it. It was fantastic! The characters are witty, charming, sexy and funny and also full of spunk! Stasi is adorable and you want to be her best friend. Blair is hilarious and so spunky. The rest of the characters, Nick, Trev, Jazz, Nick, Bogie, Jake and the gargoyle are great and you'll love the chance to get to know them! You don't have to read the series in order to get it all. I'm so excited to read the rest of them I went out and bought them all yesterday and you should too!!!!!

entertaining lighthearted romantic frolic

Seven centuries ago student witch Stasi Romanov and twelve classmates were kicked out of the Witches Academy for unruly behavior. Over the years Stasi matured somewhat; some insist experience taught her to hide her impish side though she uses a bit of magic to insure success at her lingerie shop and to sell love charms in Moorstone Lake. However, her luck runs out when one of her luck charms fails to bring satisfaction to the client. The customer Carrie the human abomination hires wizard attorney Trevor Barnes to sue Stasi. She is outraged when she receives the summons to appear in Wizard's Court. Meanwhile Cupid decides to have impish fun when he sees the attraction between Stasi and Trevor while an unknown evil adversary is playing games with the townsfolk and an eclipse is leading to a witch hunt. As Stasi and Trevor fall in love, a taboo as everyone knows witches and wizards are oil and water, the old gang of thirteen come together to try to save the day. This is an entertaining lighthearted romantic frolic starring two likable opposites (a given when a wizard meets a witch) and a charming support cast; except Cassie who contains no charm in her make-up as even her bone marrow can wither a love charm with her caustic personality. The story line is brisk, breezy and irreverent yet droll and amusing as Linda Wisdom cats a spell on her fans (see 50 WAYS TO HEX YOUR LOVER and HEX APPEAL). Harriet Klausner

Salem returns to small-town America

What does 'Stasi' mean to you? To me it is the East German secret police, those who listened in on the lives of everyday East Germans and who created a culture of fear and mistrust. I'm clearly carrying a lot of baggage from reading spy books set in East Germany as I could never get over the fact that the heroine of 'Wicked by Any Other Name' is called Stasi. Far from being an East German secret policewoman, she's an American witch, over 700 years old, who lives quietly in a small village with her friend and fellow witch Blair - until things start going wrong. 'Stasi' is short for 'Anastasia' and is presumably pronounced 'Stacey' but I spent the whole book with a background feeling of grey streets, glum and downtrodden people and hopelessness. Stasi Romanov is far from hopeless, however. She's a bright, cheerful, friendly witch, which is why she is so upset when one of the women in the town of Moonstone Lake files a lawsuit against her for damaging her marriage with a love charm. The lawyer appointed to this woman is the wizard Trevor Barnes and when he and Stasi meet, Cupid clearly has something in store for them. However Trevor and Stasi have not only the lawsuit working against them but also the fact that some odd things seem to be going on in the town, particularly at the lake that Stasi and Blair think of as theirs. When the townspeople start to turn against Stasi, Blair and Trevor and it seems there are some powerful forces at work, Stasi has to call in some more of her witchy friends and they have to see if they can protect those in town - and themselves from a repeat of the events at Salem four hundred years before. Despite the potentially serious subject matter (witch burnings) this book was generally very light hearted. The romance between Stasi and Trevor proceeded with minimal distraction, there was a side romance between Blair and the local carpenter, and we met again characters from a previous book and saw how they were getting along. The cast list was actually fairly full in this book but they were introduced over time so that it didn't become confusing. Unfortunately the source of the problems in the town was clear as anything to this reader right from the beginning so there was minimal suspense and I was only surprised the witches and wizard seemed so dim about what was going on. The author's writing style occasionally grated, too, as someone seems to have told her that every noun should have one or two qualifying adjectives, so we kept getting things like "returning a Warner Brothers Roadrunner glass to the shelf" or "midnight blue Jaguar XK convertible" or "small round tables covered with rich cream coloured silk and lace cloths", lots of spurious extra information that became fairly irritating and didn't feel like it added much to the story. I felt that none of the characters was particularly strongly drawn and that the overall plot was fairly thin but this was a reasonable enough read for light entertainment. Originally p

Wickedly fun reading

Witch Stasi Romanov learns that helping a friend doesn't pay. Carrie, a human has just hired law attorney and wizard, Trevor Barnes to represent her as a client. She wants Stasi brought before the wizard counsel and her powers striped of her. Carrie claims that Stasi has interfered with her life by making her husband leave her. It is against the law for witches to meddle in human's lives. Stasi is infuriated when she learns that she will have to argue her case not in the witches' court but in wizard's court. Witches and Wizards don't really get along. Stasi just may make an exception concerning wizard's; especially when the wizard is heart throb Trevor Barnes. Trevor has not been in the presence of many witches for good reason. From the first moment Trevor meets Stasi he realizes that he might have the losing hand in this battle. What Trevor doesn't know is that he actually has the winning smile. Will Stasi and Trevor give into their attraction for one another? Wicked by Any Other Name by Linda Wisdom is a wickedly, fun, and magical read! I recently got introduced to Linda when I read Hex Appeal. Another paranormal romantic read that involves witches. Mrs. Wisdom's books are quick reads. They can also be read as stand alone novels. I liked the fact that each book featured a new witch to meet and let me read her story. Now that I have discovered Linda Wisdom, I will keep reading her books as long as she keeps writing them.
