A fun little book, very small and chunky. Lots of content within a little package. Heavily illustrated with one black and white picture per tip which makes the book fun to page through and makes it more entertaining. The tips in this book are indeed original. You won't find the same old tired lines that you've seen for decades. (If you have been dieting for decades that is.) The tips illustrate our insanity when trying to find something, anything we can do to get the weight off. And they are presented with humor only a true dieter can understand. Would you put broken glass on your kitchen floor to stop yourself from raiding the fridge or cupboard? Eat out of a dog dish? Duct tape your mouth shut? View your favorite foods covered in mold or maggots? Probably not. But sometimes you get so angry with yourself that you may have thought about it. The mood of the book is desperation. And it creates a kind of camaraderie with all of us dieters who understand the nonsense and frustration of dieting. Even if the tips are sometimes radical or off-the-wall, they make a point. And the author didn't hold back. She was tough. Like with the tip that says "Don't lie to yourself. It was more than a serving. And fat isn't beautiful." I laughed hard at this because it is so TRUE. The book is like a slap in the face. Maybe a slap we all need at times. I would warn sensitive people not to read it. It can be down right mean in places and being insulted isn't going to help those types of people. The author shows that when it comes down to it, the reason we are overweight is quite simple. We eat too much. And the question this author asks herself and all of us who read the book is very blunt and thought provoking: Why the hell ARE you eating so much? I will likely reread this book, maybe keep it in my kitchen where I will see it daily.
