Why She Chose Life

After a while, I wasn't me anymore. I missed the girl that I once was. The girl that was always smiling and happy. No matter how grim the situation was, I could always see the light. That light began to disappear. At first, it was overshadowed by a grey cloud of despair but then, everything turned to darkness. That darkness just seemed to devour that girl. The darkness was thick and unforgiving. It showed no mercy to the girl who gave everyone more chances than they would her. Who I once was, was now lost. Smothered by the hopelessness and ultimatums. Smothered by the hatred, the scars, fears, and tears. I need to fight back, make hard and life altering decisions to save my children and to save myself. I just don't know how, and I am so scared. I have to get out. I know that now, but if I am able to find my way out of this dark place, who will I be?
