Why Halloween?

By: Lemons Th D., Bishop Jesse

Why do Christians need to think seriously about Halloween?

Halloween is often presented as harmless fun-a night of costumes, candy, decorations, and tradition. But where did those traditions come from? What does Scripture teach about death, the spirit world, divination, darkness, and the believer's responsibility to walk in the light?

In WHY HALLOWEEN?, Bishop Jesse W. Lemons, D.Min., Th.D. takes readers beyond costumes and jack-o'-lanterns to examine the spiritual questions surrounding one of the most recognizable celebrations in modern culture.

Drawing extensively from the King James Version of the Bible, this Scripture-centered study explores the historical development of Halloween while confronting deeper biblical issues of obedience, deception, spiritual warfare, and compromise.

Journey through the tragic account of King Saul, whose rejection of God's Word eventually led him into the darkness of Endor. Examine what Scripture teaches about death and attempts to communicate with the dead. Discover why God's people are repeatedly called out of darkness-and what it means to live as children of light in a culture that often makes entertainment from the very things Scripture treats seriously.

WHY HALLOWEEN? examines:

The historical development of Halloween and its traditionsSamhain, disguises, divination, and the origins of the jack-o'-lanternWhat the Bible teaches about death and the spirit worldGod's warnings concerning witchcraft, divination, and familiar spiritsThe spiritual decline of King Saul and his journey to EndorBiblical spiritual warfare and the armor of GodThe danger of gradual compromiseThe Christian's call to holiness, obedience, discernment, and lightThe victory and hope found in Jesus Christ

This book is not merely an argument about whether Christians should participate in a holiday. It asks a much more important question:

Are we willing to examine what we accept, celebrate, and normalize in the light of God's Word?

Darkness does not have the final word.

Jesus Christ is the Light.
