Introduction: Why I Wrote This Book
Hola, hello My name is Dr. Edith Trevi o, and I wrote this book because I am asked all the time how I started my consulting business. I receive phone calls, messages, and emails from people who are curious, inspired, and ready to take that leap-and in the beginning, I had time to respond, to walk them through it, to guide and encourage them.
But now-thank God-between my growing company, my booked calendar, and the writing and publishing of my books, it's harder to find the time to help everyone one-on-one. So I decided to write this book-to give you the guidance I wish I had when I started.
In 2020, I launched Dr. ET and Company, an educational consulting business that began in South Texas and has now expanded across the United States. In those five years, I've learned a lot-and I've made a million mistakes. Honestly, I wish I had a roadmap back then.
Now, I won't say I had zero support. There were two or three incredible friends who gave me the basics and encouraged me to jump in. They also guided me and shared valuable information. But I also reached out to others-people already doing what I dreamed of-and received little to no response. One even told me, "Just join the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce." While that's not bad advice, building a successful business requires so much more than that.
I've always loved teaching-whether it's students, adults, parents, or peers. It's been my passion since I was a child. In fact, my first public speaking opportunity was in the first grade. My teacher had me present-in Spanish-to a group of parents, and I loved it. Since then, I've presented for free at countless events: at my university in Pennsylvania, churches, and eventually at education conferences as a teacher. Yes-for free. My first paying job was when I was teaching in my home town almost twenty years ago. I presented to a Credit Union on the topic of customer service, and received $500.
